Auburn Optimists give Dollars to Scholars

Four graduating seniors were recognized by the Optimist Club of Auburn, WA in the annual Dollars for Scholars scholarship program. Shown here are Jim Fletcher, President, Auburn Optimist Foundation and Lucrecia Lopez, Jessica Heg, Spencer Darrington and Nathan Froelich.
Lucrecia, 18, Auburn High School graduated with a 3.52 average and plans to begin her education at Green River Community College. Jessica 18, Riverside High, graduated with a 3.27 average and will attend Pierce College at Puyallup. Spencer, 18, West Auburn High maintained a 3.18 average and will attend the Seattle Arts Institute. Nathan, 18, Auburn Mountainview graduated with a 3.59 and will attend Brigham Young University. Congratulations to all!

Santa Claus is coming to Auburn, Washington

The Auburn Optimist Club has been busy preparing for Santa's arrival. The jolly old elf will return to his Auburn headquarters on December 6 where he will be available for pictures and to talk with all the hopeful youngsters who want to convince him that they have been nice (not naughty!) throughout the year.

The Santa House has been a tradition in Auburn for more than forty years. It will be open through December 24. See the complete schedule here.

Other fun holiday activities include the Santa Parade and Tree Lighting!

Thirteen CCDHH Students Compete in Auburn Optimist Club Communications Contest

On May 6, Frank Smith and Joe Jenkins attended the annual communications contest for the deaf and hard of hearing (CCDHH) at the Northwest School for Hearing Impaired Children in north Seattle. Thirteen students from 6th grade to 8th grade competed by signing and reading their entries. Three won top honors, but all students received a framed certificate while their proud parents and families watched. Frank presented School Director, Judy Callahan, with a $300 check from the Auburn Optimist Club, as he has for many years. The school is now in its 26th year. Frank Smith (r) and Joe Jenkins (l) are joined by 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners: Aaliyah Cheatham, Connor Brown and Kaylie Whitmore.

Optimist Bike Safety Fairs

The Issaquah Optimist Club has expanded their reach with the Optimist Bike Safety Fair by partnering with presenting sponsors Overlake Medical Center Issaquah and Washington Imaging Services. Two events will be held this year: June 6 at Issaquah Valley Elementary School in Issaquah, Washington and June 7 at Lake Hills Elementary in Bellevue, Washington.

The Auburn Optimist Club’s 18th Bicycle Safety Fair will be held June 7 at the Auburn Eagles parking lot, 702 M Street NE. They are partnering with the Auburn Eagles, Auburn Firefighters and Police Officers and co-sponsors Verity Credit Union, State Farm Insurance and Fred Meyer.

These family affairs will feature the following free activities:
• Bike Safety Tips
• Bike Helmets
• Obstacle Course Challenge
• Bike Tune-ups
• Games
• Face Painting
• My ID of King County

Bike Safety Fairs are one way that members of Optimist Clubs personally participate in helping keep our youths safe. Approximately 115,000 individuals belong to Optimist Clubs in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and other countries around the world.
